A number of federal programs provide grants, loans, and technical assistance for community-based economic development projects. The following programs, while not an exhaustive list, are frequently used by coal-affected communities. While few of these programs specifically target these communities, many support the types of projects that transitioning communities often pursue—from entrepreneurship and workforce development to mine land reclamation and infrastructure development.
Programs and their requirements are subject to change, so please check department websites for current information. The Just Transition Fund last updated this list on September 30, 2021.
