Located in Indiana County, PA, the Homer City Generating Station, the largest coal-fired power plant in Pennsylvania, closed in 2023. As the community grapples with the ramifications of that closure, the Center for Community Growth, in partnership with W.H.O.L.E. Unity, is establishing an initiative called Indiana County Thrives. This project will be a community-driven effort to identify and foster the economic and workforce development opportunities in the area and to convene stakeholders to co-create the future of the county’s economy.
<< Learn more about our impact“It has been a transformative experience to work with the Just Transition Fund in the development of Indiana County Thrives, an initiative of the Center for Community Growth and WHOLE Unity partnership. The organizations have each grown through community engagement and community led conversations about what the future of coal communities in Indiana County can look like for families, industry, employers, and entrepreneurs. As a result, we are in a solid place to continue the work of being a resource to our rural areas and small towns.”
