We’re excited to announce that two JTF-supported projects recently won funding through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Mineral Resources Management (MRM)’s Abandoned Mine Lands Economic Revitalization (AMLER) program. AMLER funds support revitalization efforts on abandoned mine lands in historic coal mining communities. We’re proud to support the following partners and their transformative projects:

  • Rising Appalachia (Millfield, OH) received $1,708,300 for its Coaltivating Appalachia project. Located on the former Sugar Creek Mine in Athens County, this project will develop a native fruit and nut processing facility as well as an expanded ecological education and recreation center, featuring community and workforce development programming. Learn more about the project here
  • Tablertown People of Color Museum (Stewart, OH) received $500,000 for its project Tablertown, From Coal Mine to Museum: A Black History Journey. This funding will support the construction of an exhibit hall that will explore the legacy of coal mining and its impact on the people of color in the region. The project aims to preserve an often overlooked aspect of history while stimulating the local economy.

By providing grants and technical assistance, the JTF proudly supported these organizations in securing critical public funding to grow their local economic solutions. Congratulations to our partners!
