We’re thrilled to share that JTF partner Green Building Alliance (GBA) was recently awarded $1,488,707 in funding through the Department of Labor (DOL)’s Workforce Opportunity for Rural Communities (WORC) Initiative!
The WORC Initiative is a partnership between the DOL, the Appalachian Regional Commission, the Delta Regional Authority, and the Northern Border Regional Commission that supports workforce development solutions to expand economic opportunities for the underserved communities in these regions. The DOL recently announced $49 million in funding to 35 projects in 18 states, with awards ranging from $150,000 to $1,500,000.
As an awardee, JTF partner Green Building Alliance, received funding to launch a new program called the Green Pathways Initiative. In collaboration with regional partners, the Green Pathways Initiative will train workers for jobs in the green building and clean energy sectors in the southwestern Pennsylvania counties of Allegheny, Beaver, Fayette, Greene, Washington, and Westmoreland. The JTF provided grant funding to support the development of GBA’s application to the WORC program.
Through our Federal Access Center, the JTF helps coal communities overcome barriers to accessing federal funds – high matching requirements, time-intensive application processes – and leverage historic amounts of available funding to strengthen local economies. If you are working in a transitioning coal community and need assistance applying for federal funds, please fill out this brief inquiry form to get started.
Congratulations to the Green Building Alliance!
