We’re excited to announce our support to four projects in coal-impacted communities for their applications to the Department of Labor (DOL)’s Workforce Opportunity for Rural Communities (WORC) Initiative. Through this initiative, the DOL will fund projects that develop local and regional workforce development solutions that promote new, sustainable job opportunities and long-term economic vitality with a focus on equity and underserved populations. Eligible applicants must be located within the Appalachian, Lower Mississippi Delta, and Northern Border regions.
The Just Transition Fund is proudly supporting projects led by the following organizations:
- DEW Something Different: bolstering skilled trades programming in South Carolina through comprehensive training in the growing HVAC sector
- Green Building Alliance: fostering a sustainable workforce in green building energy assessments and construction in Pennsylvania and West Virginia
- Three Rivers Regional Commission: administering workforce development programming in Georgia focused on manufacturing, logistics, technology, and healthcare
- West Virginia Women Work: helping women throughout West Virginia explore, train, and secure employment in nontraditional occupations and skilled trades including construction
Through our Federal Access Center, we help coal communities overcome barriers to accessing federal funds – high matching requirements, time-intensive application processes – and leverage historic amounts of available funding to strengthen local economies. If you are working in a transitioning coal community and need assistance applying for federal funds, please fill out this brief inquiry form to get started.
