We’re excited to announce our support for nine projects in coal-impacted communities throughout Appalachia through their applications to ARC’s Partnerships for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization (POWER) Initiative. POWER targets federal resources to help communities that have been affected by job losses in coal-related industries. Through this initiative, ARC funds projects that will leverage entrepreneurship, workforce development, and infrastructure to bolster local economic growth. We proudly support projects from the following organization through application development or matching funds:
- Advantage Valley Community Development Corporation (Charleston, WV) for the Expanding Markets Initiative to support the growth and diversification of manufacturers and business services in the region
- Green Building Alliance (Pittsburgh, PA) for the PROGRESS PA-WV program to advance innovation in the built environment and bolster a sustainable workforce in green building energy assessments and construction
- Mon Forest Towns Partnership (Elkins, WV) to provide strategic project development assistance and grant coordination services for the 12 Mon Forest Towns to secure funds for outdoor recreation projects
- Mountain BizWorks (Asheville, NC) to bolster the outdoor economy workforce in North Carolina by delivering technical assistance to rural communities across the region
PLACE Initiative (in partnership with What’s Next EKY?!, in Floyd County, KY) to develop a framework that helps communities identify climate-smart economic development opportunities that draw on the assets of the communities - RenewAll (Huntington, WV) for the Cultural Wealth Hub project which will transform a historic main street building in the heart of downtown Huntington
- Rural Action (The Plains, OH) for the BRIC-SPACE project to establish a light manufacturing hub, creating workforce opportunities and housing Rural Action’s social enterprises
- Screen Arts Institute (Shamokin, PA) for the Broadcast Arts Initiative: a workforce development program designed to train workers in various broadcast arts mediums
- Tablertown People of Color Museum (Stewart, OH) to develop a Heritage Trail that connects Underground Railroad and related Black Heritage sites through cultural heritage tourism and outdoor recreation
Through our Federal Access Center, we help coal communities overcome barriers to accessing federal funds – high matching requirements, time-intensive application processes – and leverage historic amounts of available funding to strengthen local economies. If you are working in a transitioning coal community and need assistance applying for federal funds, please fill out this brief inquiry form to get started.
