The Appalachian Climate Technology (ACT Now) Coalition, a Build Back Better Regional Challenge (BBBRC) awardee, has received the largest rural grant and is one of the few coalitions led by grassroots, community-based organizations. Based in Charleston and Huntington, the ACT Now Coalition represents the 21 counties in Southern West Virginia with the highest levels of coal dependency in the nation and which were severely impacted by the national decline in coal production. While the region faces an abandoned mine problem with significant environmental implications, its key assets position it to be a global leader in clean energy.
